Diamond Devils on fire at plate, smoke Mallards.
As with Mounds game @ Big Lake this one was never in doubt but this time the Mallards were on the short end of the route. With 5 runs in the 1st, 2 in the second and 5 more in the 3rd Maple Plain cruises to a 16-5 final in 7 innings. The Mallards did cut the lead to 7-3 after 2 innings on a error and hits by Andy Keding a Joe Wood RBI single and a Garrett Genereux 2 RBI double, but that was as close as Mound would ever get. In the bottom of the 7th Mound got 2 runs, on walks to Nick Rettke, Mike Mitchell and Garrett and they were knock in on sac flies by Pete Harrell and Robb Moynagh but a final K ended the game.

Mallards fly high over White Caps.
In a game that was never really in doubt the Mallards score early and often to crush Big Lake in the White Caps final regular season game. The first inning a walk to Robb Moynagh and a 2 out homer by Andy Snyder started things off. Third inning after a Peter Sycks walk Andy Snyder would go yard again for a 4-0 lead. Then a huge 5th inning put the game away at 17-0 as Andy Snyder went yard for a third time. In Andys final at bat with 2 out in the 7th inning he grounded into a force play to end the Mallards offensive day. Nick Rettke made this game a no doubter by throwing a 7 inning complete game 2 hit shutout.

Rockford outlasts Mallards on day of miscues.
The Game was not very pretty for either side but Rockford capitalized on their chances while Mound did not. The Mallards left 14 runners on base and made a few to many mistakes while the Rockford squad managed to get the runners that got on with free passes home.
Wednesday July 9th, 2008
Buffalo walks all over Mallards.
Mound had one of those games, no energy, no execution and no results. Mound pitching walks to many Buffalo hitters, hits to many batters and the team defense was far below par while Buffalo plays an almost flawless game. Peter Harrell, Andy Snyder each did have 2 hits and Peter Sycks had 4 of the teams 10 hits, but it was no where near enough.
Wednesday July 2nd, 2008
Mound scores eight and holds off an Albertville late rally.

In the 6th Chris Harrell started things off with a single an Eddie Kutz double on a hit and run scoring Chris and after a Mike Mitchell single a double steal was pulled of to perfection scoring Eddie from third. In the seventh the Mallards put the game out of reach with walks to Joe wood and Pete Harrell a sacrifice bunt by Robb Moynagh to move the runners over followed by Peter Sycks single and a Andy Snyder double for the final three runs. Mound had rough couple of innings in the field but Peter Sycks was able to stop the rallies and preserve the victory 8-7.

mallards shut down A's and bat 12 in first to cruise to a 8-1 victory.
After 2 were out in the bottom of the first inning Mound scores 6 runs. The 2 out rally starts with a Peter Sycks walk, an Andy Snyder double down the third base line next a Chris Harrell walk would load the bases for Eddie Kutz. the pitcher for Delano had a few control issues and hit Eddie and the next batter Mike Mitchell, Nick Rettke singled in another run and Joe Wood brought in 2 more with a single. The top of the order would bat again and this time Pete Harrell would walk, Robb Moynagh lined the first pitch back up the middle to load the bases again and drive the A's pitcher from the game. The rally would then end with the new pitcher retiring Peter Sycks for the only time in the game. Chris Harrell pitched 6 innings of 2 hit baseball and Joe Wood would pitch the last 3 innings for the save. Mound would later add 2 more runs on a double steal by Eddie Kutz and Mike Mitchell and a RBI ground out by Peter Harrell.

Rockford pitching shuts down Mallards O.
As has become common place for the Mound Mallards no offense and one bad inning in the field add up to another L. The Rockford pitchers held the Mallards to 4 hits and 7 walks, while Rockford took advantage of their chances to score. The big inning was the fifth when the Bandits got 2 soft singles to left and a misjudged line drive to right went for a double scoring 2 runs. A missed throw to third and a missed grounder by the next hitter gave Rockford all they would need, even though they would add one more run later. The Mallards had ample opportunities to break through with a well timed big hit but were repeatedly shut down with runners on. Mound had two runners on in the second, third, sixth and eighth innings but were only able to score in their last opportunity. A Peter Harrell single a Pete Sycks walk and a force out had runners on the corners and Robb Moynagh singled in Harrell with the first Mallard run but the next batter was struck out and the Mound attempt to come back was ended. Mound got a walk in the ninth but that was all and the game ended Rockford 4 Mound 1.

Two Ninth inning runs shoot down Mallards comeback bid.
The big hitting lineup of Hutchinson did not disappoint as they started the game off with three straight hits two doubles and a single but scored only one run. Mound responded by loading the bases with one out on singles by Pete Harrell, Peter Sycks and Chris Harrell but a ball hit to right was caught and the runner was doubled off of second to end the inning. After four innings the score was Hutch 3 Mound 0 but in the bottom of the inning Andy Snyder crushed his second homer of the season to cut it to 3-1. After remaining 3-1 for several innings in the bottom of the seventh the Mallards rallied for 2 runs the keys being a Mike Mitchell double and a Peter Sycks sacrifice Fly. The top of the eighth was an exciting inning as the Hutch team loaded the bases with 1 out but a hard grounder to Chris Harrell at third was turned into a third to home to first double play, the third double play of the game for the Mallards, to snuff out the rally. The Hutch team came back again in the ninth with two runs on four hits and in the bottom of the ninth Mound did again have the tying run come to the plate but no more comebacks were in works this day.
Saturday June 14, 2008
2 hit shutout breaks Mounds string of losses.
The Mallards got it going early offensively and the pitching of Mike Mitchell and Joe Wood handcuffed the Rogers team all day. Mound started it out in the second inning when with 1 out Chris Harrell singled an error put runners at first and second a single by Mike Mitchell and a fielders choice by Pete Harrell knocked in the 2 runs in the inning. The two runs in the second would have been enough for the Mallards and Mike Mitchell's 11 strikeouts but in the seventh Mound got 4 more runs. The 7th got started with a error and a solid single to left by Andy Snyder. After a failed "attempt" to advance the runners and a walk the big blow was landed that sealed the outcome, a 2 run single by Nick Rettke and a bad throw scoring a third run. Joe Wood closed the door the last two innings and Mound headed home with their second shutout of the season.
Friday June 6 & Saturday June 7 2008
Mound takes two losses at Hamburg tourney.
The Mallards playing with a very depleted line up due to injuries to the pitching staff and a few players unable to make the weekend games didn't do much to prevent either Young America or Hamburg from advancing in the tourney. The Mallards did get good pitching but a bunch of players in unfamiliar positions lead to way to many mistakes and some very bad final results.
Sunday June 1, 2008
Another close tough loss for the Mallards.
With the pitching substantially depleted the game mallards came up just short after Monticello comes back and wins. Mound held leads of 5-2 and 6-5 but in the end the shortage of pitching and only having 10 players again bites the team and leads to their ultimate unraveling. In the third inning down 2-0 the Mallards got five runs on 5 hits. Jeff Barrett started the inning with his first hit of the season and of 2 on the day, Peter Harrell walked and after a fielders choice and an error the bases were loaded. Robb Moynagh doubled over the left fielders head for 2 runs, Chris Harrell singled in another run and then Eddie Kutz doubled over the left fielders head for one more run and the end of the day for Monty's first pitcher. After the pitching change Joe Wood brought in the final run of the inning with a single and a 5-2 lead. After a tough inning in which the mallards miss played 2 double play balls the score was again tied. In the 5th inning the Mallards took the lead for the last time with a Nick Rettke double a Jeff Barrett single and a Peter Harrell run scoring single. But in the bottom of the inning the Polecats got 2 runs and one more for insurance in the 8th to nip Mound and put the Mallards record at 1-6 for the season.

Walks and defense doom Mallards in Loretto's blow out win.
Loretto scored one run in the first and starting Pitcher Chris Harrell had to come out of the game with a dead arm. Mound did pull into the lead for a short time after the hot hitting Andy Snyder went long ball for a 2 run shot and a 2-1 advantage. The lead was short lived as Loretto scored 6 times in the top of the next inning, after a ball to right was ruled an error. Two strong innings pitched Eddie Kutz feel apart and the score was now 7-1. The scrappy Mallards fought back in the bottom of the inning with 4 runs of their own on 2 walks a gapper to left center by Robb Moynagh scoring a run, an RBI walk to Cory Hawkinson, RBI ground out by Peter Harrell and of course Andy Snyder with another hit and the final run for the Mallards on the day. After 2 quick scoreless innings by Robb Moynagh A lead off homer a few singles an error and some wild throws later the game was out of reach for the home team. Peter Keding came in to pitch the last 2 innings for his first innings this season.

Poor Defense leads to easy win for Hutch.
Mound started out wit h2 hits but all went down hill from that point. Many errors and mental lapses lead to a 6-0 deficit and the outcome was never in doubt as the final score of 7-3 was no indication of the total ineptness of the Mallards on this night. The Mallards did fight back and had the tying run in the on deck circle in the 9th inning. The team did break out of its hitting funk a little and now needs to put a few more runs on the board. Peter Harrell was 3-4 and was hit by a pitch. Peter Sycks was 2-4 and had a sac fly with 1 RBI. Andy Snyder had his usual 2-4 with a double walk and run scored. Pete Keding had a great pinch hitting appearance and work a walk out after 10 pitches in the eighth and Nick Rettke was 1-3 with a double, walk and 2 runs scored.
Sunday may 25th, 2008
Great pitching and clutch defense end in a 10 inning heart breaker for Mound.
An all to familiar plot played out again Sunday for the Mound Mallards, OUTSTANDING pitching and almost no hitting, just 6 hits. Jeff Barrett pitched 6 innings of 2 hit shutout baseball against the high powered Maple Plain Diamond Devils. The Mallards were however doing nothing on the offensive side either until the 8th inning when John Morgan got a single to center with one out, with two outs Maple Plains pitcher walked both Peter Harrell and Garrett Genereaux to get to the number three hitter Andy Snyder. During Andy's at bat a close 1-2 pitch was called a ball by the umpire and a frustrated Maple Plain pitcher layed the next pitch in there for Andy to club to left field scoring one and keeping the bases full for Peter Sycks. Before the first pitch the new maple Plain pitcher seemed to obviously balk starting his wind up and stopping for no reason but the umpire missed the action and after an almost home run sailed just foul Peter was retired and on the game would go. Chris Harrel pitched three innings giving up only 2 hits but a run in the bottom of the ninth on two hit batters and two walks, the second after another close pitch was called a ball.
Peter Sycks came in to pitch in the 10th inning and retired the first 2 batters but a throwing error and a hit to left put the winning run on second with two outs. The Maple Plain batter hit the ball deep to left center and after a long run the ball was unable to be held onto and the winning run came across the plate.
Wednesday May 21st, 2008:
Pitching and defensive duel ends in a Mound 1-0 11 inning win at Delano.
It seems whenever These two teams hook up it is a long and close battle and this meeting was no exception. Mounds Chris Harrell pitches in and out of trouble for 7 innings while Mounds offense does little to get anyone across home plate. Delano had numerous opportunities to score but for the most part with 2 outs and the Mallards pitching and defense came through each time. With 2 outs in the 6th inning and runners in scoring position Chris Harrell induced a grounder to his older brother Peter at shortstop in which Peter played and threw to first a little low but the pick was made at first and the scoreless match was still on. The eighth inning saw Delano get a runner to third with one out, off of the new pitcher Peter Sycks, but he got a grounder to himself for the 1-2 put out at the plate and the game would roll on scoreless. in the tenth inning the A's get the bases loaded with two outs and Sycks gets a roller to short for the easy play by Peter Harrell.
The top of the 11th brings a lead off single by Peter Harrell then a perfect sacrifice bunt by Brian Hejna and a Andy Snyder shot to left field that was hit way to sharply for the run to score. All of this would bring the pitcher Peter Sycks to the plate and on the second pitch he hit a ball to the fence in center field for a sacrifice fly and the margin of victory for the Mallards.
Sunday May 18th, 2008:
Howard Lake gets good pitching and timely hitting to edge Mound in Mallards home opener.
Mound gets an outstanding pitching performance by Peter Sycks and never gives up but they fall just short in the end. As was the case in the Mallards first game one inning of near misses defensively give the opposition just enough runs to hold the feisty boys off.
Howard Lake scored three runs in a 7th inning that saw Peter Sycks gem of a game get marred by near misses in the outfield. The Orphans had a hit just slide between the right fielder and center fielder for a double, a fly to right that was just out of reach and then a diving catch made in right field that the tag from third to score was controversial. Add all of this up and the visitors got 3 runs in the inning tacked 2 more on in the 8th and held of the late charge by the Mallards.
With the score 6-2 in the ninth inning Mound got a double from Andy Snyder and then with two outs a single to right by Garrett Genereaux, a walk to Joe Wood and after a lengthy battle a 2 run single by Robb Moynagh to bring the winning run to the plate in Brian Hejna. With Nick Retke pinch running at first Hejna hit a smash to the right side of the infield in which he was retired at first and Mounds come back would fall just short.
