GAME RECAPS
Sunday July 26th: This day would see Mound start hitting early and never really leave the outcome in doubt. After a first inning rally fell short of scoring and Mounds pitcher, Andy Keding, Stranding 4 Albertville runners in the first 2 innings the Mallards came through with 4 runs in the second. Mitchell would start off with a double and a Kutz sacrifice was thrown away so he replaced Mitchell at second. After 2 were out both Harrells would single Pete getting an RBI and a Sycks ball was misplayed at third for 2 more runs and a 4-1 lead.The fourth would bring about more scoring when Keding singled, Wood doubled Pete Harrell singled in 1 run Chris Harrell singled and a Sycks sac fly brought in Wood then Snyder would single in the 3rd run of the inning. After the Villians got a run in the 7th Mound got it right back when a Robb Moynagh hit to right took a bad hop and went to the fence and from third he scored on a wild pitch. An error in the 8th would lead to 2 Albertville runs but Mound would get them both back after walks to Harrell, Sycks and Snyder and a 1 out grounder to the pitcher forced out the runner at home but a wild throw to first scored a run and Mitchell would single in the final Mound run. The ninth would see the Villians get a run after 2 errors a walk and a hit but a line drive to third was knocked down and the force out was recorded for the final out of the game.
Wednesday July 22nd: An outstanding pitching effort by Chris Harrell went for naught as the sticks for Mound could not produce in the clutch. Harrell pitched 5 innings of no hit ball but in the 6th the Rogers team scored 2 and broke up the no no. For the game Rogers would score 5 runs 4 earned and win 5-2. Mounds runs came in the 2nd when C. Harrell singled as did Mitchel and after a great sacrifice bunt by Andy Keding Kutz came up with the RBI single but the runners were stranded at 1st and 3rd. The Mallards bats were silent until the 8th when with 2 outs Sycks would double and after a lengthy at bat an error on the second baseman would allow the pinch runner to score. the ninth would bring on a feverish rally in which the winning run would come to the plate after Keding singled, Kutz walked and Wood singled and the pitcher was removed. This time the top of the order could not come threw and a K would end the game.
Sunday July 19th: A very layed back effort by the Mallards as the standings were already set and Maple Lake took advantage scoring 7 runs off of Ben Brewster and coasting in for the 9-1 victory. Mike Mitchell had 2 hits and the RBI to break out of a slump and Chris Harrell had hits as well to keep his hot streak going.
Tuesday July 15th: Mound battled back from a 4-0 deficit but in the end came up a run short to fall to Howard Lake 4-3. After falling behind early Mound scored when Eddie Kutz lined a double to the left center field gap and then scored on a ball hit to left by Andy Snyder, but then after singles by Peter Sycks and Robb Moynagh, would end the inning with the sacks full. The Mallards would take another run off of the lead when on a Joe Wood stikeout the ball would get past the catcher and Joe hustled into second and then he scored from third on a Kutz groundout. Mound would stike again on a disbuted call when Robb Moynagh hit a deep ball down the left field line that looked to most to cross the fence foul but was ruled a homerun and the score was 4-3 Howard Lake after 7 innings. Mound would not be able to muster another run and for the game left 13 runners on base.
Tuesday July 14th: Another heartbreaker for the Mallards as Albertville scores 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th to win. Mound scored 3 runs in the 2nd on singles by R. Moynagh, C. Harrell, an RBI by Joe Wood another by G. Genereux and then the first baseman thought there were 3 outs and rolled the ball to the Mound so Wood scored while the villians looked at the ball in the middle of the field. They scored again in the 3rd on a P. Harrell single, P. Sycks single and an RBI single by R. Moynagh. With the score 4-3 Mound, the Mallards would get 1 more run in the 8th but squanderd the chance to score more which would leave the door open for to the comeback victory by the Villians.
Sunday July 12th: This game was changed to Loretto, at night but the Mallards didn't seem to get the news, they never showed up and got blown out 18-3. The Mallards pitching, early in the game, gave to many walks, to many hits and the defense made a couple mistakes at the worst times. Peter Sycks did come in and shut down the Larks after the third inning but way to little to late. The bats didn't make much noise either with only 5 hits, 1 each by P. Harrell, Sycks, R. Moynagh, A. Keding and C. Harrell and RBI ny P. Harrell (1) and R. Moynagh (2).
Wednesday July 8th: Another very well played game by the Mallards who took a 4-0 lead in the second inning only to see the themselves fall behind 5-4 in the fourth. mound would then get 1 in the fourth, 4 in the sixth to make the score 9-5. Mound would get 2 more in the 7th and Rogers answer was only 1 more run in the 8th for a final of 11-7. The highlights of the game would be the 5-5 for Pete Harrell and 2 outstanding catches by Andy Snyder in right field, ond a sliding grab in foul gound to end the 8th and a running catch in the darkness of right center field warning track to start the 9th inning.
Monday July 6th: The Mallards played their best defensive game of the year as they won in 10 innings 3-2 against Buffalo. Andy Keding pitched another 10 inning complete game. Peter Sycks hit a 2 run homer in the 8th to tie the score and a Peter Harrel walk in the 10th brought in the winning run.
Wednesday July 1st: In what was the worst played game by the Mallards all year, they got hammered by Maple Plain 10-0. Chris Harrell pitched and tried to over come all of the fielding misques but all the extra pitches got him in the end and the Maple Plain Diamond Devils scored 10 runs off of 3 Mallard pitchers. Mound had 2 great chances to score one in the 3rd and another in the 4th inning but a line drive out ended the 3rd with 2 runners on and the 4th ended without a score dispite bases loaded and no body out.
Saturday June 27th Game one vs. Carver: The mallards won 6-5 taking an early lead that was stretched out to 6-2 but 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th made the game tight but Chris Harrell closed the door after some rough defensive plays behind him.
Game 2 vs. Webster: The Mallards bats were mostly shut down except for a 2 run Andy Snyder homer that cut the lead to 3-2 behind a great effort on the hill by Peter Sycks, but a disasterous bottom of the 6th gave the Webster team an insermountable lead at 6-2.
Sunday June 28th 3rd place vs. Cleveland: Some outstanding pitching by Ben Brewster and Neil Eidenschink held Cleveland to 3 runs and some timely hitting and fielding paved the way for the victory. Mound scored 3 in the second to make the score 3-1 and after the Comodors scored to tie the game the Mallards scored a run with 2 outs in the sixth and threw a Cleveland runner out at home in the bottom of the inning to assure the victory.
Sunday June 21st: Rockford would visit Mound and as always these 2 teams came down to the wire needing 10 innings to decide it. It did not look good early for the Mallards as Rockford would score 4 early runs but a runner being picked off of first and a third to home to first double play kept the demage to a minimum. Mound would just battle the entire game to get even as Peter sycks would not allow another run all day. In the first Mound got one when Snyder doubled, sycks singled and Moynaghs sacrifice fly would score 1 run. In the fifth a 2 out error put Sycks on first and he would score from there when Robb Moynagh tripled over the head of the right fielder. The score stayed 4-2 until the ninth when after Snyder was hit by a pitch Sycks would double and with 2 outs Chris HArrel would single them in to ty the game. A 2 out double in the ninth by Calib Steffenhagen and then a dropped pop would score the game winner.
Thursday June 18th: On a hot humid very sunny night Mound traveled to Loretto to play Elk River and this game was barn burner from the get go. Mound scores first when Snyder and Sycks single and with 2 outs C. Harrell doubled one in but E.R. would score 2 in the bottom of the inning. The Mallards came back with 3 runs in the 2nd when with 2 outs Garrett Genereaux was hit by a pitch,P Harrell singled an error would score 1 and Sycks doubled in the other 2. In the fourth Genereaux singled and a Sycks single would score him. The fifth would see Mound another when Joe Wood singled and P. Harrell knocked him in. The Mallards not being done got another in the sixth when one of Peter Sycks 5 hits was launched over the outfield fence for a homerun to ty the game at 7. It would then take an extra innong to decide this one but in the tenth Snyder was hit by a pitch Moynagh walked and a deep drive to left center by Wood could not be brought in and even though Elk River would score one in the bottom of the inning Mound won 9-8. Andy Keding pitched a 10 inning complete game and pitched far better than the score would indicate.
Wednesday June 17th: ]Delano visited Mound and what a pitching duel there was. Delano score 3 runs all unearned off of C. Harrell early and would get no more and only get 4 hits all game. The Mallards would score one run in the 5th on a Robb Moynagh Gift double, C. Harrell would walk and Eddie Kutz would move them over each a base. Andt Keding would get the RBI grounding out to first. In the 8th Andy Keding would walk, go to second on a wild pitch, tag and make it to third on a fly to right and score on another wild pitch. In the ninth Mound tried to rally but with the tying run on second Kutz line drive was snared by the left fielder making a running, jumpin catch on the warning track.
Sunday June 14th: The Monticello team was visting Mound on this afternoon and came out ready to play scoring 5 first inning runs and knocking starter Jeff Barrett out after getting only 1 out. Peter Sycks relieved in the first and pitched 8 2/3 great innings allowing only another 3 unearned runs. The Mallards fought back with 3 of their own in the first on walks to Palm, P. Harrell, Snyder RBI single, Sycks 2 RBI double.Mound would get another run later when C. Harrell doubled and Joe Wood snigled him in. The Mallards final run would score when P. Harrell doubled, Snyder singled and Sycks hit a sacrifice fly. Final score Mound 5 Monticello 8.
Friday June 12th: Same story as in Dassel, Mound just not hitting. Hutch scored only 4 runs , because of great performance on the hill by Chris Harrell but Mound could only muster 1 run on a Sycks RBI single that scored Nate Palm. The big play of the game came when with no outs Andy Snyder drove the ball deep to left center and Peter Harrell was trying to score from first but on a close play at the plate the umpire ruled against the Mallards.
Friday June 5th: A new story line unfolded against the DC Saints, Mound unable to hit. the mallards had only 4 hits Eddie Kutz, Pete Sycks and Robb Moynagh (2), for the entire game and only had one real chance to score. In the top of the second inning after a Moynagh single a steal of second and an infield hit by Kutz runners were on the corners with 2 outs, but the runner was picked off of first and tagged before the runner could score from third. Chris Harrell threw another good game but one tough inning when 3 of the runs scored was enough for the DC club to cruise to a 6-0 win.
Sunday May 24th: Another heart breaker for the Mallards as the Kingston Kings scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th. For Mound this is 3 games in a row with the other team ending the game with a walkoff hit. Mound started putting runs on the board in the second inning on a Robb Moynagh walk, Garrett Genereux walk, a Peter Harrell walk and a booted grounder 1-0. Kingston scored 4 in the bottom of the 2nd 1-4. After the Kings got their 4 runs in the second they would be kept off the board until the ninth. Mound scored 3 in the 6th inning when Robb Moynagh singled to right, the pitcher Nick Rettke singled to center, Peter Harrell singled to load the bases for Joe Wood who reach on a fielders choice driving in 1 run, Andy Snyder would do the same and when the pitcher tried to pick Andy off of first Harrell would wheel it home for the teams 3rd run of the inning 4-4. In the top of the ninth the Mallards would strike again when Snyder doubled, with 1 out Chris Harrell singled then Mike Mitchell with 2 strikes came through again to put the Mallards ahead, the next batter Robb Moynagh singled in Harrell but the next 2 batters, Rettke and pinch hitter Kirby Moynagh were retired 6-4. With 2 outs and 2 runners on in the bottom of the 9th a Kingston player would homer to center field to end the game 6-8.
Wednesday May 20: It looked like almost a replay of the Sunday game against the loretto team as the Mallards fall 14-15 on a walk off hit again, this time to St. Michael. Mound was in control of the game from the first batter until late in the game. The game started with a Nate Palm walk, Peter Harrell singled, Andy Snyder doubled in both of them and later scored on a double play grounder 3-0. The Saints came right back with 4 runs off of Peter Sycks 3-4. The second started with 2 walks one each to Jeff Barrett and Joe Wood after a sacrifice bunt Peter Harrell reached on a high chopper in front of home plate and Andy Snyder doubled all 3 in 6-4. The bottom of the third would see St. Michael get 1 back 6-5. Back came the Mallards in the fourth with 1 out Peter Harrell singled, Snyder was hit by a pitch Peter Sycks singled in 1 run and Mike Mitchell another 8-5. The bottom of 4 would see the Saints come at Mound again with 3 runs and force Mound into a pitching change as they brought in Jeff Barrett 8-8. Here is a surprise, in the top of the fifth Mound came back again when Robb Moynagh, Jeff Barrett and Joe Wood all reached with zero outs, Palm would single in one run as would Peter Harrell, a Snyder walk forced in another run, a fielders choice scored the 4th run of the inning and a Chris Harrell hit would bring in the 5th and final run of the the inning for the Mallards 13-8. The Saints got 2 back in the bottom of the inning and Chris Harrell was brought in to throw 13-10. The 6th and 8th would see The Saints get 2 runs each time to go ahead 14-13. Top of nine 2 outs no runners on Sycks singled to right, Chris Harrell walked and with 2 strikes Mike Mitchell was clutch again knocking the runner in 14-14. As was the case on Sunday the bottom of nine just didn't work out for the visiting Mallards as a single, walk, sac bunt and a hit that landed on the left field chalk line would give the Saints the walk off victory.
Sunday May 17: playing Loretto on this day was a crazy ride. Mound started the game with a Pete Harrell homer, a Robb Moynagh double next a Andy Snyder Homer a Peter Sycks single Eddie kutz walk and Peter scored on a fielders choice 4-0. The Larks came back with 3 in the bottom of the inning 4-3 and 3 more in the bottom of the second 4-6. In the third the Mallards score on a Andy Snyder single Sycks got on because of an error, a Kutz sac bunt advanced the runners and with 2 outs 2 errors brought in both runners 6-6. In the bottom of the fifth the Loretto team again struck for multiple runs to make the score 6-10. The top of the sixth would see mound fight right back with a Snyder single, an Eddie Kutz doubled off of the fence in left center to drive in one run and he scored on a Mike Mitchell 2 bagger 8-10. In the bottom of the Seventh the Larks would again put a bunch of runs on the board and the game looked out of reach for the Mallards at 8-14. The eighth inning would bring Mound back to striking distance after Sycks singled, Kutz walked, Andy Keding got an infield single Mitchell singled in 2 runs, Joe Wood would do the same and a Sac fly by Pete Harrell would drive in Mitchell 12-14. The top of the ninth would again show Mounds never give up spirit when Snyder singled again, Kutz would walk again and with 2 outs and the runners on 2nd and 3rd Mitchell worked the count from 0-2 to 3-2 after many fouls and doubled off the left center field fence to tie the score14-14. The Larks lineup proved to be just to much for the Mallards and scored in the bottom of the inning to end the marathon Mound 14 Loretto 15.
Saturday May 16: On this cold and windy yet sunny day these teams participated in a seesaw battle that went 11 innings before Mound would pull out their second league victory in as many tries. Albertville scored in the first 1-0, Mound score in the second on singles by Peter Sycks and Chris Harrell a wild pitch and a throwing error 1-1, Albertville scored in the third 2-1. Mound scored 2 in the fifth as Pete Harrell singled, Andy Snyder doubled him in then Peter Sycks singled him in 3-2. The Villains scored 2 more in the sixth 4-3. Mound scored one in the seventh when Robb Moynagh hit a deep fly to left that was dropped Andy Snyder flew out to deep left center to advance The runner and peter sycks Flew deep to left for the sacrifice fly 4-4. Mound scored again in the eight After a Eddie Kutz double and 2 out Joe Wood drove him in with a base hit 5-4. Albertville scored in the ninth on a solo homer 5-5. Albertville scored 2 in the 11th but Mound scored 3 in the bottom of the inning for the dramatic victory When Nick Rettke homered to lead off the inning, Joe Wood singled for the fourth time in the game stole second peter Harrell singled him in. With no out and The runner now on second Robb Moynagh put down a bunt that turned into a infield single than an intentional walk and a pop up Jeff Barrett walk in the winning run and the end to a 3+ hour game. Peter Sycks got the victory on the hill after three innings of work.
Sunday May 10: In a battle of poor defense the Mallards rebounded from a shaky start to batter the Rogers team 17-7. Mound started fast at Rogers with a Hit by pitch a sacrifice bunt and then a 2 run monster blast off bat of Andy Snyder. In the bottom of the inning a few walks and a couple miss plays gave Rogers their only lead of the game at 3-2. In the top of the third the entire Mound order chipped in and made the Red Devils change hurlers. After the 9 runs in the 3rd inning, keyed by 4 RBI by Chris Harrell and a long 2 run double by Andy Keding, Mound cruised. All 12 of the Mallards that entered the game reach base safely at least 1 time totaling 17 runs, 17 hits 9 walks and 1 hit batter. Chris Harrell stared as the pitcher and settled down after the first inning to go 6 innings and get the victory.
Sunday May 3rd: The Mallards opened up the non- nsl league Part of their schedule at home by placing a beat down on the MPLS Blue Sox 15-7. Mound started slowly and was only trailing in the third inning 3-1 but it was all Mound after that. Mound had outstanding performances from the usual Pete Harrell, Andy Snyder, Peter Sycks who combined to bat 9-14 with 4 doubles, 1 homerun and 11 RBI. Two new players contributed at the plate as well, Nate Palm had 2 walks and scored 2 runs and Kirby Moynagh had a double, RBI and a run scored.
On the hill 4 of Mounds top 5 pitchers held the Blue Sox scoreless while the 5th was not at the game. Jeff Barrett, Chris Harrell, Andy Keding and Peter Sycks combined for 8 1/3 innings scoreless with 16 K's complete domination by the Mallards staff!!!!
